The owners of Bad Dog Farms Custom Handmade Soap from right here in Morris County, NJ regularly talk to community groups about their Custom Soap-Making business. Started in 2002, as a "garage business" Bad Dog Farms has crafted soap bars to order for clients all over the country. Starting with commercially produced melt and pour soap-bases, BDF uses all natural additives along with commercially produced colors and fragrances to make unique, one-of-a-kind home-made soap bars.
"The variety of our product is endless" notes co-founder David Armbruster, "We'll make anything you can ask for. I can't remember the last time we were unable to fill a customer's request."
"We've made everything from Lemon-Lilac to Cantelope-Strwberry" recalls Tom Armbruster, founder of the company. "Our customers order right off the website, or they email us, or some send us a package of 'soap-ends' (the small part of a soap bar that is too thin to use anymore) along with other personal stuff and a note and we create a 'run' for them. We have a customer in Chester, NJ who LOVES roses. She sends us a ziplock baggie of rose petals from her garden, soap-ends and other Hotel soap, we process everything and make her a pink, fragrant soap using a white Goatmilk base, her ingredients and a small dose of fragrence and color. The beauty of our soap, is that other than the small amount of preservatives in the base, we add no extra preservatives, hardeners or chemicals of any kind. Our soap has about 1/5th the artifical ingredients of a supermarket soap bar. Our soap sets for 3 days, and is shipped to you fresh as can be, ready for immediate use. You never will enjoy a shower as much as when you use a soap that is exactly to your order specifications."
The company has testimonials from customers raving about the freshness, creamy texture, aroma and feel of their soap. "Most of our customers try different combinations, and once they get used to the ease of ordering, they regularly send us things to put in the soap. Lilac blooms, tulips, juniper berries, zuchini flowers, anything." Says Dave Armbruster; "We even have a customer from Sarasota, FL who sends us a bag of tomato leaves and flowers about every 3 months. We blend the leaves into a clean, Olive-oil base with a drop of 'Summer Rain' scent, and he goes crazy for the fragrance and texture....and the clean, very light green hue....He says it smells like he is 'Gardening in the Rain'......"
